CAPTAIN AMERICA
SKIPPER Jay DeMerit has been called up to represent the United States for their vital 2010 World Cup qualifiers next week.
The Watford captain is included in the 24 strong-squad who are flying to their training camp in Miami today (Tuesday) and are then due to travel to Costa Rica on June 3.
Bob Bradley's men will go on to host Honduras in their second match on the 6 in Chicago.
The United States currently top their qualifying group with seven points and a healthy goal difference of +5.
Costa Rica are one point behind and Honduras take third place with four points.
DeMerit will be looking for a start as the team will then be picked for the UEFA Confederations Cup, which starts on June 14, where they will face tough competition in the form of Italy, Brazil and Egypt.
The 29-year-old defender is the only Championship player to make the squad and joins Premiership players Clint Dempsy, Brad Guzan, Tim Howard and Jonathan Spector in the chosen 24.
