MALKY Mackay's return to Carrow Road didn't bring the result the ex-Canary would have wished for. But Mackay was happy to admit the better team won at the end of the day.
"I have fond memories of this place and I wanted to come back and get a result" he said.
"It was a great atmosphere with 26,000 fans and the pitch was like a bowling green, but we didn't come away with the result we wanted.
"You can tell that Norwich are down at the bottom and fighting and they deserved the victory today."
The Hornets haven't had the fixtures easy recently, having to face teams who are all needing the points at the business end of the season.
He added: "If you look at our last three games, all the teams came to the games needing to fight for their lives, and in the first 15 or 20 minutes, Norwich certainly looked they were hungry for the result."

The Scotsman was full of praise for his squad however.
"With a main goal threat in the shape of Tamas Priskin out of the game, Will Hoskins and Danny Rose came in and battled away which wasn't easy for them, having not been on the pitch very much recently. Will was unlucky and had some great strikes, it was a 'nearly' day for him goal-wise.
"We defend as a team, its about team defending. The first goal was one of those crazy goals, and the other from a set piece. The back four players have been fantastic and we will continue to defend and attack as a team; and today we have to take the brunt of that."
The Hornets first team coach is under no illusion of what Saturday's second to last home game of the season will bring. But his message to the Golden Boys is to get back on their bikes again after the tumble in east Anglia today.
The Scotsman commenetd: "Birmingham will be a very tough game, they're looking to get that second automatic place at the moment so we've got no doubts about what we're up against.
"We have to make sure we redeem ourselves, it's good when you get a game quickly after a defeat.
"In four days time we're back on it again, and we need to use that to remind everyone that we have good players and a good team. What better way to redress the balance than to host a top team at home and to beat them."
