THERE'S NO STOPPING LOACH

Posted on: Wed 08 Apr 2009

FOLLOWING Watford's 2-2 draw with Championship strugglers Southampton, goalkeeper Scott Loach felt that it just wasn't to be Watford's day for three points.

"I think Southampton had a bit more to play for than us, but saying that; we still want to finish as high as possible and as strong as possible" said Loach after the final whistle.

The former Bradford loanee was beaten near the end of normal time by a stinging 30 yard free kick that gives the Saints hope for the tight relegation run-in.

He added: "They were fighting for every second and we were unlucky. It was a point gained from a game in hand. It's a step closer to safety for us and one more like that and we can be sure of being in this league next year."

The England U21 stopper had a great game against Mark Wotte's outfit on Tuesday night, making some vital close range shots for the Golden Boys. But Loach is still coy about his obvious talent.

"My job is to make sure I'm in the right place at the right time, and luckily for us it paid off. The lads were excellent though; I think the second half showed why we're meant to be higher up the table."

Rodgers & Loach
Loach: "Brendan has brought in a winning attitude"

With five games left until the end of the season and three of those being at Vicarage Road, Loach echoes the thoughts of the rest of the boys in their confidence in getting maximum points.

"It comes down to mathematics at the end of the day but were definitely good enough and shouldn't be battling at the bottom. No disrespect to the Wolves and Birminghams of the league but after watching their match on Monday you think we could compete against any of them.

"There's 15 points for the taking in the last five games now and we'll go out to get 15. I don't think it's just the manager and staff that have installed that mentality in us. I think the players here are great professionals and we all want the best.

"I do feel we have under achieved this season, I think we're one of the best in the league.

"Brendan has brought that attitude in from Chelsea; to be the best, to look at the best, play the best and all the players think that as well. Now there's 15 points for the taking, lets take them!"
