WATFORD U18S 0 SPURS U18S 4

Posted on: Tue 11 Nov 2008

WATFORD'S Academy was defeated at London Colney on Saturday morning (8 November) by near neighbours Tottenham, as the visitors stormed to a 4-0 victory.

The home side were outdone by two goals in either half as Spurs didn't look back after taking the lead within 10 minutes, after an own goal from Watford centre half Eddie Oshodi.

Kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes and once the game eventually got underway heavy rain and driving winds made for difficult conditions as the watching parents and spectators braved the elements.

Tottenham included highly-rated John Bostock in their starting XI, the former Palace man made his first team debut against the Hornets back in October of last year - coincidentally he also made his last appearance against the 'Orns for the Eagles in January of this year

Spurs took the lead after breaking down the right flank, the ball was hit in to the penalty area and Oshodi got there first, unfortunately it cannoned off him and straight into the home net.

The visitors made it two before the interval as Ryan Mason converted a penalty after John Obika was dragged back inside the penalty area after a defence splitting pass from Yaser Kasim.

A 2-0 cushion meant Tottenham were now in total control of the game going into the second half.

The Hornets showed signs of dragging themselves back in the game but their efforts failed to trouble Jamie Butler in the Tottenham goal. Winger Michael Bryan saw his shot flash across goal just five minutes into the second half and Matthew Whichelow shot wide later on in the half.

Watford had one or two openings but they were missing an edge in attack without the services of Marvin Sordell who is out on 'work experience' at Wealdstone.

The visitors added a third when Paul Jose M'Puku fired home from inside the box and then the game was all over when, with just a few minutes remaining, a fourth was added as Obika struck past Bo Antal after the Hornets didn't clear their lines properly.

The Golden Boys simply didn't have an answer to the Tottenham attacks and with a few strong, physical players, Watford couldn't raise their game to Spurs' level.

Watford's Academy are away to Aston Villa this Saturday (15 November).
