IF there's a way to concede a goal at present then the Hornets seem to be finding it, following another kamikaze defensive display at Vicarage Road which led to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Blackpool.

After leading the match three times it was simply heart-rendering to see the Golden Boys lose at the death in this end-to-end encounter, but, as centre-half Darren Ward conceded after the final whistle, the home side have no-one to blame but themselves.

And the Wolves' man was incredulous at the end, as he explained: "You just can't believe it, I've never experienced anything like that in my career; to be 2-1 up and be well in control - it's indescribable.

"We've got to go back to the drawing board and learn from that - it's as simple as that.

"We can't be letting that happen again, or letting four goals in at home again, it's not good enough.

"All the games we're playing in we're seeing goals come from silly mistakes, not world-beaters.

"It's up to us to put it right and we've got to get our heads right and put it right. It's one of those times where things aren't going for us and the only way to get ourselves up again is to work hard."

Since Ward has arrived he's been thrown to the lions in some respects, partnering countless other central defenders and watching goal after goal fly in past Richard Lee, but even so, he remains philosophical.

"It's football, it's what happens and you have to deal with these situations," he said following his sixth appearance in a yellow shirt this season.

"It's how we respond; it's as simple as that. We've got to get ourselves out of this hole we have dug ourselves into. We can do that because we have got some good characters and strong characters.

"It's crazy, you look at it and think 'what have I done right and what have I done wrong' - it's a strange situation."
