HOMEGROWN STARS HIT LANDMARKS

Posted on: Sun 05 Oct 2008

TODAY was Academy Day at Vicarage Road and as such it was fitting that two products of the club's Academy set their own records this afternoon, as the Hornets overturned a one goal deficit to beat Preston 2-1.

Goalscorer and match winner Tommy Smith netted his 50th goal for the Golden Boys - it proved to be a vital one as the Hornets notched up their first league win since late August.

Smith has now scored 14 goals in his second spell with the Hornets.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd said: "I'm thrilled for him because he's been outstanding this season, he's done very, very well for us up front and in wide positions. He's chipping in with the goals and he's certainly carrying the fight for us."

Meanwhile goalkeeper Richard Lee made his 100th appearance for the Hornets today - the stopper ironically made his debut for the 'Orns against Preston in March 2003.
