BOSS ON BEES
AIDY Boothroyd's Watford suffered an injury blow at Brentford, but welcomed back Gareth Williams.
Tommy Smith had given Watford the lead before the Bees pulled one back two minutes into the second half.
Mart Poom's departure due to injury was a blow, but there was good news in the form of returning Gareth Williams, who played his first spell of first team action in over a year.
Boothroyd said: "For some of them today it was their first 90 minutes, so I'm pleased with that and also with the fact that we played some great stuff in the first half.
"However, in the second half I thought Brentford had the better of it and they restricted our chances."
Referring to the keeper's injury, the gaffer admitted it could not have come at a worse time following Richard Lee's knock.
"It's the last thing we need at the moment, but I thought Scott Loach came on and did superbly well. He's been out on loan so maybe this could be a big step for him, he might have to be our man at the moment.
"Regarding new signings, I've got a couple of things in the pipeline, but that's just where they are at the moment. Nothing concrete is in place yet.
"We had Ulises De la Cruz playing with us today on trial. He's here for a couple of weeks and he's done well so far. He's got a good pedigree with around 90 international caps for Ecuador.
"As for the change in the style of play, I wanted us to become a bit more flexible in terms of the football we played. We became all too predictable last year and that's what we're trying to change in time for our first game against Palace on August 9."
