TOMMY Smith's stock is definitely up at the moment, after scoring the all important play-off producing goal on Sunday and then picking up the Player of the Season award at last night's end of season dinner.
The Hemel-born midfielder sent the travelling Hornets into delirium on Sunday as they charged towards the pitch to celebrate his equaliser; such was the importance of the strike.
Then last night, Smith's campaign was capped with the prestigious award, but for him the season is far from over.
He said: "It was nice to win it, especially with a club that you've been at for such a long time. I've watched a lot of the players at Watford over the years from the stands as a kid and it's great to have my name up there alongside them.
"It was a tough game on Sunday and one that we could have easily lost having gone down to ten men, but we showed great character to push on and get a result. There was a real sense of relief afterwards and now we know we've got that play-off spot, we'll go again and aim to win them.
"It would have been terrible not to have made it into the play-offs on the last day, but we always felt that we would be capable of achieving that. The margin with which we went up just goes to show how important the little things are and how vital everyone's contribution is."
With the first leg of the semi-final on Sunday, the Golden Boys will take part in a training session at Vicarage Road ahead of the big game against Hull - a game where some payback is definitely owed.
"That's the good thing about the play-offs. It's always great to have form, but in these situations it counts for nothing, everything goes out of the window and thankfully that will suit us right now.
"We didn't prove ourselves up there at Hull a few weeks ago, so it will cathartic to put things right and there won't be any bigger stage to do it on than in the play-off semi final.
"Training at the ground will do us good and we'll be able to acclimatise ourselves with Vicarage Road given our home form; we don't often train at the ground so it will be good to run through a few things there.
"Hopefully this will help change our fortunes a bit, plus it will give us the opportunity to get used to the ground underfoot as it will have started to dry out a bit this week."
So with such a busy weekend behind him, is there anything left for the midfielder to accomplish?
"Some more goals would be great, even though the goal that I scored on Sunday was probably the most important goal of my career. But at this stage the important factor is the team and performing as a whole and getting the result."
