WATFORD Ladies were knocked out of the fifth round of the FA Women's Cup sponsored by E.ON.  Following a 3-3 draw they were then beaten by Newcastle 2-1 on penalties.

The Geordies caused the shock of the round, with a win on penalties away to Watford, having only forced extra-time with two late goals.

The Magpies took an early lead through a Marie Houlihan own-goal but the visitors found themselves 2-1 down at half time, following goals by Emma Thomas and Helen Lander.

Ashlee Hincks fired in the third from a cross on 64 minutes, before Newcastle hit back with two goals in the last seven minutes. Elaine Sedgewick volleyed home, before Julie Twaddle's 30-yard strike levelled the tie.

With few clear cut chances in extra-time, it all came down to penalties. The Hornets had to net their final spot-kick to take it to sudden-death but the shot over the bar sent the underdogs through.
