WATFORD pressed Everton all the way in their first ever Premier League Cup Semi-Final but their hearts were broken when they conceded the winning goal with thirty seconds of extra time remaining.

Everton opened the scoring on the half hour with a firm header from Jill Scott, after the Hornets failed to clear a Michelle Evans corner.

Watford pressed for the equaliser and created two good opportunities, one of which came back off the post, but couldn't find the net. Everton thought they had a second when a Natasha Dowie effort beat Marie Hourihan, however it was ruled offside.

Watford started the second half in determined fashion and the pressure paid off when Emma Beckett headed home the equaliser after eight minutes. Despite some fine attacking play, neither side could find the winning goal and the game went into extra-time.

Four minutes into extra-time Watford conceded a penalty but Watford 'keeper Hourihan guessed correctly and parried Rachel Unitt's effort to safety.

The missed chance seemed to galvanise Everton as they proceeded to dominate possession in the second half, but they couldn't find the net until a late Toni Duggan solo effort finally saw the Toffees go through.

The Watford girls can hold their heads high for a gutsy performance that took the game to the wire, against one of biggest names in the women's game.
