HOT SHOT HENDO
HOT-SHOT Darius Henderson scooped the Football League's Powerade Player of the Month award for his superb form throughout September.
Five goals against Ipswich, Southampton and Cardiff last month saw Henderson brush off fellow nominees Felipe Teixeira (West Bromwich Albion), Michael Mifsud (Coventry City) and James Beattie (Sheffield United).
His form has helped propel Watford to the top of the Championship and keep the Hornets at the top of the tree for the remainder of the month.
Henderson has proved to be more than a handful for defenders of late and the goals haven't been confined to September. Darius has hit the back of the net twice again this month and at this rate, he'll be looking to retain his title.
Henderson was delighted to receive the plaudits: "It was an honour just to be nominated alongside three of the league's top quality players, so to win it was especially pleasing.
"As for my current form, I've always believed in my ability so I never felt as though there was any pressure on me.
"It's well documented that the goals didn't come as readily as I would have liked last season, but they seem to be dropping for me at the moment.
"Next time round in the Premiership I will be better equipped to do well. Maybe I was too anxious first time around. I was almost trying too hard, and I could feel myself tightening up in front of goal, but this season I believe I'm going to score every time I step on the pitch."
Manager Aidy Boothroyd was equally pleased to see his in form hit man get the praise he is so rightly worthy of: "I'm very, very pleased for him. It's well deserved. He's come a long way and now he's got to kick on and continue with the sort of form he's shown to win this award."
The winners will be announced formally on tonight's Big League Weekend 2 on Sky Sports 1 at 6.30pm.
Further accolades came as this week's team of the week was announced. Richard Lee, Lloyd Doyley and Marlon King were all named in this week's Championship team of the week after the 3-1 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday.
On loan Toumani Diagouraga, currently plying his trade at Hereford also made it into the League Two team of the week.
