THE DUKE'S PROMISE
HE may have only played for 19 minutes, but the link between new boy Nathan Ellington and Marlon King was clear to see.
And although the club record signing failed to get on the scoresheet, it wasn't for the want of trying.
Ellington was denied by the woodwork after being on the pitch for just five minutes and the Vicarage Road faithful were on their feet every time he touched the ball, such was his ability to turn nothing into something.
Speaking of his debut, Ellington said: It felt great. Obviously I'd like to have played more and I was itching to get on, but that will come in time. The important thing from today was we won and kept a clean sheet.
"I was a bit unlucky with the one that hit the post, but these things happen, I promise it will go in next time.
"I'm so impressed with the squad here, it's solid and strong and I think we've got a real good shot at promotion. I wouldn't have signed otherwise.
"The price tag I've come with doesn't bother me, I don't think about it and I don't put pressure on myself. That's just how much it cost to get me here and doesn't dictate how I feel I will play or how I should play. I just want to play well and score goals."
The link between himself and Marlon King will no doubt be one that Championship defences will come to fear and it was there for all to see already at this early stage.
"It felt good, all the signs were there. I hope that people come to fear the strike partnership of Nathan Ellington and Marlon King.
"I just hope that we can give the fans something to cheer about when we get firing."
