WATFORD have today signed West Bromwich Albion striker Nathan Ellington in a club record transfer deal.

The 26 year old front man became the club's record signing for a fee of £3.25m rising to £4.25m, depending on games and successes and will join the Hornets on a four year deal, adding yet more firepower to Aidy Boothroyd's attack.

Ellington, known as 'Duke',  certainly has an impressive record in the Championship, having scored 24 goals in the 2004/05 season to top the goalscorer's chart and propel Wigan into the Premiership.

It was his form for Bristol Rovers that first attracted interest from the Latics and he went on to score 67 goals in his 141 starts for the North West club.

Then signing for West Brom, he notched eight goals during their Premiership season, but his first season at the club was hampered by a series of niggling injuries. Last year he found the back of the net on 11 occasions with the Baggies.

Watford's previous record signing was Allan Nielsen, who came with a £2.25m price tag from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2000.
