WHAT with old flames Nathan Ellington and Jordan Stewart playing against Watford on Saturday, it was always going to be a slightly surreal game for the travelling Hornet fans.

If seeing "The Duke" and Jordan in white shirts careering towards Loach's goal wasn't odd enough, seeing the Derby faithful love for their own ex (a certain Tommy Smith) made things even stranger. Hang on Derby. He's our legend! You can't love him too!

While Mr Ellington was rather predictably booooooooooed from the away-end from start to finish, Jordan had a rather more mixed reaction.

Yes there were the odd howls of derision whenever he got the ball, but it was mixed in with applause, which only grew louder when Stewart did the decent thing and came over to clap the Watford support. It was at least nice to see an old player show respect to the fans who for so long once chanted his name.

However it was another ex that made the trip to the midlands all the worthwhile, despite the defeat. "He's the famous Nicky Wright, and he scored at Wem-ber-ley. Wembleeeeeey, Wembleeeeeeey!" Yes, quietly sat in the away end, as just another paying Watford supporter, was the devilishly handsome ginger chap, who once scored arguably the greatest ever Hornets goal - Nicky Wright Wright Wright.

The Derby fans probably didn't have a clue what was going on as we chanted his name over and over again, but what a delight to see a former hero still following the club.

If Wrighty wasn't enough, at half time up popped one of my all time favourite Vicarage Road cult heroes - Craig Ramage. As "Rambo" cooed about picking numbers for the Derby half time draw, it wasn't the fans of his hometown club that he was waving at.

No chance, Ramage was saluting the Watford fans that adored him when he transferred from County in the early nineties.

Personally I think they're should be a smattering of old faces at all games. Fingers crossed I'll be sat next to, oh, let's say, Michel Ngonge or, erm Xavier Gravelaine at the Bristol game on Boxing Day...
