IT hasn't been the best seven days for Malky Mackay as he was forced to watch his team lose at home for the second time this week.
Despite their best efforts with strong courage and determination, Dave Jones' Cardiff side were too strong as The Bluebirds gave the Hornets a nasty sting as they netted four goals past Loach on a blustery afternoon in Hertfordshire. Cardiff have now scored a total of 10 goals in five days.
Malky Mackay again handed Will Hoskins a league start after the striker scored an impressive goal for the Hornets on Tuesday night. Also included in the squad was Manchester United loanee Craig Cathcart and Ross Jenkins who were fit after a virus that struck them down in midweek.
Tom Cleverley and John Eustace continued their roles in the set-up after impressive displays in recent matches while Adrian Mariappa continued to captain the side in the absence of Jay DeMerit through an eye infection.
For Cardiff, Joe Ledley found himself sidelined, replaced by Stephen McPhail who played in Cardiff's 6-1 thumping of Derby on Tuesday.
It was a somewhat quiet start for both teams in the opening stages at Vicarage Road, with Cardiff's Jay Bothroyd's first shot on goal going wide of the target for the visitors and Watford otherwise keeping a steady control of the ball on their home turf.
As the clock approached the 15 minute mark, amid several referring decisions that didn't go the Hornets way, Chris Burke had a strike but the ball found the gloves of Scott Loach before it could find the back of the net.
Don Cowie immediately replied at the other end with a freekick from 25 yards out which smashed the bar, denying the Scotsman an opening goal for the Hornets.
The Watford attack continued to bombard the rather strikingly clad Cardiff goalkeeper with balls into the area, but the visitors were able to clear the ball away from danger.
The partnership of Will Hoskins and Danny Graham linked up in the 19th minute providing the home side with a good chance but the ball was well blocked by Bluebirds captain Mark Hudson.

But Mackay's men were not going to take this early deficit lying down and cranked up the pressure on City, with Graham and Cowie showing their dangerous combination to the fans at Vicarage Road.
As the match neared the final 15 minutes of the first half, Watford were showing some confident defending with youngster Lee Hodson continuing to prove his maturity as a player in the team.
With 34 minutes gone, Cleverley floated a sweet free kick in from the right but the bright pick jersey of the Cardiff goalkeeper got in the way of the Manchester United youngster's shot.
Cardiff sent hearts racing as they started to pile on the pressure. Captain Hudson produced a header from deep inside the area which hit the bar and the onslaught continued as Gavin Rae fired a right-footed shot from close range over the bar.
On 40 minutes, Loach misjudged a 40 yard free kick from Adam Matthews as the windy surroundings carried the long ball through the air and floated over the Watford goalkeeper and into the back of the net, putting the visitors two goals in front.
Watford skipper Adrian Mariappa was booked for a late challenge on Chopra in added minutes of the first half as the Hornets frustration of the afternoon kicked in.

The half time whistle blew and the Hornets trudged slowly into the dressing room to regroup.
A more lively Watford side entered the field ready for the second half but the referee was clearly not taking any nonsense from the Watford end of the pitch, consistently blowing his whistle against the home side.
On the 55 minute mark, Tom Cleverley's delivery met Graham's foot and the striker had a close-range strike but the ball went wide of the post. Minutes later goalkeeper David Marshall denied Graham a goal as his shot was saved.
Nathan Ellington was introduced onto the field as Mackay tried to give the Hornets some fresh legs and new ideas on the pitch, but Loach's pain continued as City put a third past Watford in the 65th minute. Penalty scorer Whitingham planted a header into the back of the net from close range and the Watford goalie failed to save the shot.
Just when it seemed it couldn't get any worse, two minutes later, Bothroyd put the visitors four goals up. The striker grabbed the ball from inside the area and slotted it into the top left-hand side of Loach's net.

In the 80th minute, Ellington was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as Ellington received Cleverley's pass and proceeded to turn and shoot, but his effort was saved by City goalkeeper Marshall. Minutes later the striker had an easier chance, but his shot flew over the crossbar.
It was close to being five goals for the visitors in the final few minutes of normal time as top scorer Chopra sailed a ball through the air towards goal, missing the target by a few inches past the right-hand post.
