BLACKBURN LADIES 4 WATFORD LADIES 4

Posted on: Wed 25 Aug 2010

WATFORD Ladies kicked off their Premier League campaign under new manager Neil Hart and came away with an entertaining 4-4 draw at Blackburn, thanks to goals from two new signings.

The girls started nervously with the intent on getting out of the starting blocks quickly.

Nerves played a massive part in the first goal. A sloppy throw-in by The Hornets led to a Blackburn striker tucking the ball home.

Eventually the equaliser came in the 44th minute. The new signings combined when Rowell played in Young, whose long range effort lobbed the advancing keeper. Score at half time was a fair 1-1.

The second half started similarly. The girls looked to get an early lead. However, it was Blackburn who eventually scored again when a free kick evaded everyone, including Hornets keeper Davey, making the score 2-1.

The new  Golden Girls manager made a few changes but it wasn't enough to stop Blackburn scoring a third. A mistake in the middle of the park led to Blackburn's centre midfielder travelling un-opposed to make it 3-1.

Watford began to push forward. Their reward came when a corner delivered by Rowell was met with power from Daniels making it 3-2. This energised the girls and within minutes they were awarded a penalty. Rowell took it and slotted the ball into the top corner to equalise.

The Hornets completed an impressive comeback thanks to a curling Rowell strike left the home keeper with no chance.

Coming into the final minutes nerves got the best of the 'Orns. Blackburn grabbed a last minute equaliser thanks to a defensive mistake to make the final score 4-4.

Manager Neil Hart and his assistant Sam Perrin wanted all three points but felt a point away from home was well deserved.

Perrin said after the game: "The ladies have done well, to come all this way on a coach to Blackburn and play at there maximum for 90 minutes is hard, not just for us but for any team."

Watford Ladies Team: Davey, Wotton, Daniels, Nicholson (Cooper), Kearney-Perry, Adams (Miles), Young, Rowell, Logie, Madden (Gunn), Wiltshire. Subs not used; Crook.

Player of the Match: Cally Rowell
