The Watford players take a bow at Vicarage Road after coming back from a 3-1 defeat in the first leg of their first-ever UEFA Cup tie, beating German side Kaiserslauten 3-0 for a 4-3 aggregate win.

Wembley here we come (14/4/84)

A 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park on April 14, 1984, took Watford to Wembley for the first time. Les Taylor, goalscorer George Reilly, Graham Taylor and Maurice Johnston relish the moment.

The 8 goal record (25/9/82)

The Golden Boys set their stunning league goal record in 1982, beating Sunderland 8-0 at Vicarage Road. Luther Blissett finally nets his first hat-trick for the club.

What a weekend (11 & 13/5/85)

Tottenham are humbled at The Lane with the Hornets triumphing 5-1, before producing the same result to destroy Manchester United two days later back at Vicarage Road.

Against Spurs John Barnes, Blissett, Nigel Callaghan, Colin West and a Thomas own goal completed the rout. Meanwhile against the Red Devils, Blissett, Callaghan (2) and West were again on the score sheet alongside Kenny Jacket.  

Wembley Wonders (31/5/99)

Nicky Wright's unforgettable overhead kick and Allan Smart's decisive 89th minute winner see Watford promoted to the Premiership for the first time since its creation.

Once again under the guidance of Taylor, Watford were viewed as the underdogs in the play-offs against Bolton Wanderers at Wembley, this was a significant moment in recapturing the glory of former years.

Making History at Anfield (14/8/99)

Watford record their first ever Premiership victory against Liverpool. Tommy Mooney's 14th minute scrambled effort silences Anfield until the final whistle.

League Cup Legends (9 & 30/11/04)

The 'Orns see off the south-east coast in consecutive League Cup ties. First a spellbinding 5-2 victory over Southampton with the Saints managing two consolation goals after the Golden Boys went 5-0 up. Goal scorers on the night were Bruce Dyer, a double from James Chambers, Heidar Helguson and Hameur Bouazza.

This was then followed by Portsmouth's arrival at the Vic later that month in the Quarter-Final. Unfazed, Watford steamrolled into the semis with a resounding 3-0 win over Pompey. Of the eight goals scored, Helguson, Chambers and Dyer were responsible for seven.

Celebrations in Cardiff (21/5/06)

The Hornets produce a heroic performance that rounds off a spectacular season that finishes with promotion to the Premiership once again.

From relegation contenders to promotion winners in one season under the magic tutelage of Aidy Boothroyd, Watford ease past Leeds United 3-0 in the play-off final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on 21st May 2006.
