EARLIER this month seven young girls from the Holywell Positive Futures street dance sessions joined other young people from across London to perform in Leicester Square as part of the Government's National Tackling Drugs Week.

The group only had two weeks to prepare an individual medley and then learn the group medley, which was choreographed by teachers from Sutton Positive Futures.

On Tuesday 9 June the girls: Chloe Robinson-Hunter, Ella Cowderoy, Sam Wilson, Paige Wilson, Sarah Joseph, Becky Cassidy, Leanna Joyce performed in London.

Full credit must go to Helen Seeberan from idance Studios who teaches the sessions for coming up with a routine and to the girls who spent time outside of the sessions perfecting it.

The day started with a short train journey from Watford Junction to Leicester Square where the girls registered and received Positive Futures t-shirts.

Surrounded by the bright lights of Leicester Square, the group made some final touches to their routine before taking part in a rehearsal of the overall performance with the other groups.

The main performance was delivered to a crowd of passing people and Children's Minister Baroness Morgan.

Baroness Morgan then spent time talking to individuals about the effects that Positive Futures has had on their lives.

The performance generated a large amount of media interest and a number of the girls were interviewed by TV crews which was a great experience for them. The day helped promote the positive alternatives for young people who may be thinking about or involved in substance misuse and the girls spent a little bit of time finding out more by talking to FRANK on their promotional bus.

Watford Positive Futures would like to thank the schools that the young people attend for letting them have the day off to attend the event, the parents / guardians who came along to support the girls and finally Helen who has done a fantastic job with the girls.

If you are interested in getting involved in street dance on the Holywell Estate, the group attends sessions every Thursday at Westfield Sports Centre between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, or alternatively every Tuesday between 6.00pm and 7.00pm at Meriden Community Centre.

Both sessions are delivered by Watford based Dance Company idance studios and all sessions are completely FREE, just simply turn up at one of the sessions and get a participation form off the tutors.
