ON Saturday 19th July 2008, Watford FC's Positive Futures Project worked in partnership with Holywell Community Centre and various groups currently using the facility to hold a community festival.

The aim was to engage with as many people as possible from the local community regardless of sex, age and ethnic background through a variety of activities.

The Positive Futures project ran two football tournaments for boys and girls aged under 13 and under 8 who live locally and have been involved in the project for the last year.

The tournament was called the High Sheriff's Cup in recognition of the project being awarded £2,000 by the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire for winning first prize in the 2008 Crimebeat Awards.

Over 80 young people took part in the tournaments and the winners and their families will be invited to a Watford FC game where they will be presented with their trophy on the pitch at half-time by the High Sheriff.

The project's delivery agents Shaolin Boxing and Idance studios added to the entertainment on the day by providing demonstrations and dance routines that showcased the other activities available through the project.

Watford FC's CSE Trust and Learning Centre partners also supported the day by offering some fantastic raffle prizes.

John Lewis of Watford donated an Ipod shuffle, Domino's Pizza offered three free family meal deals, Total UK gave over 300 items including key rings, pen sets and torches, and the Hornets generously handed over two signed shirts, a signed football and Buzz store vouchers.

The project would like to thank all of the people involved in the day from the various organisations who contributed to making it a huge success that will become an annual fixture in the Positive Futures programme.
