WATFORD manager Aidy Boothroyd was more than happy with the 1-0 home win over Charlton and hopes to see more displays like it this season to get the fans off their seats at Vicarage Road.

Tommy Smith's first half strike separated the teams and if it wasn't for the saves of Nicky Weaver it could have been a lot more.

Boothroyd said: "I thought we created a lot of chances in the second half but we just weren't clinical enough, I think there should have been a penalty but it wasn't given. Overall I believe that we were the better side today."

Following two clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Bristol Rovers, the gaffer was more than keen to make it three in a row.

He added: "I think it was a daunting game beforehand because we've got a good point at Palace and I believe Charlton will be there or thereabouts at the end. To score, keep a clean sheet and to win was pleasing and I can have a nice weekend now.

"I think the fans will be able to see that we've got a recognised goalscorer in Grzegorz Raisak, as soon as the ball is put in the box he has that uncanny knack of getting on the end of it.

"We had to push the deal through and we had a lot to do in the last few days - therefore I thought it was right to start him on the bench, plus I thought Tamas Priskin was great against Palace. It's a long season and all our strikers are going to be needed but I was very pleased with Grzegorz's start.

"We're using this word 'fluid' a lot and we're trying to be a lot more fluid and at the same time not lose our identity, when the ball needs to be slid behind defenders it should go, maybe we were guilty of not doing that so much in the first half.

"It's alright playing attractive passing football but you've got to make sure that you play from the back, as opposed to at the back and I want us to penetrate teams and get fans off their seat and score some goals."
