ACADEMY: WATFORD U18 1-2 COVENTRY CITY U18

Posted on: Wed 08 Feb 2012

YOUTH-TEAM COACH Dave Hughes was very pleased with some of Watford's football on display, particularly - he reflected - the fact the players were trying hard to implement what had been asked of them.

"Of course we're disappointed with the results of late, but I think we're being punished for just about every error we're making," he explained, after a slip cost Watford an equaliser having taken the lead.

"Our passing and movement was really good, and I can't criticize the players in terms of what they're trying to do.

"Poor decisions on occasions in our defensive third are proving costly, but that shouldn't take away from the way our lads are applying themselves to what we're asking them to do in possession."

Defender Chimdi Akubuine it was who put the Hornets in front from a corner, however City hit back soon after, with not just one but two goals of their own.

"What's important is for our group to keep believing in their work, not get too bogged down with scorelines, focus on individual performance and let the development continue as a result of that."

Hornets: Bonham; Willmore (Horner), Akubuine, Tumwa, Connolly; Kalu, Hamilton-Forbes, Westlake, English; O'Nien (Jakubiak); Gardner.
Subs not used: Eaton, O'Connor.
