"GOLDEN DREAMS IN A GOLDEN SHIRT"

Posted on: Wed 24 Feb 2010

WATFORD'S FA Youth Cup Quarter Final against Chelsea at Vicarage Road last Wednesday was featured on Monday (22 February) night's BBC Late Kick Off show.

The sports magazine programme, hosted by Mark 'Chappers' Chapman, included studio guests Gareth Ainsworth and Mark Bright who talked about the success and importance of Watford's Academy.

With 11 players from the Academy gaining first team appearances this season, the Golden Boys are well above the league average of just five.

Academy midfielder Piero Mingoia's Kop End penalty in the fifth round was a topic of conversation, while the feature also includes an interview with 18-year-old second year scholar and first-team regular Lee Hodson, First Team Coach David Kerslake and Hornets' boss Malky Mackay.

He said: "We've got a great relationship with the Academy. It is very important to us as far as the future of this Football Club is concerned.

"We've got a lot of Clubs in the country that are realising that financially they can't compete and buy players so the next best thing is to rear your own."
