WATFORD FC is delighted to confirm the signature of Spanish international midfielder Mario Suárez.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Hornets and joins from Italian Serie A side Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee.
A product of Atlético Madrid’s youth setup, Suárez made loan moves to Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo during his early playing days, before completing a permanent switch to RCD Mallorca in 2008.
He went on to feature 64 times for Mallorca before returning to Atlético in a €1.8m transfer two years later.
Suárez enjoyed a huge amount of success upon his return to the Vicente Calderón Stadium, winning the La Liga title and finishing Champions League runners-up in 2013/14, as well as securing the Europa League and Copa del Rey trophies in 2011/12 and 2012/13 respectively.
After 180 appearances during five years back at Atlético - including one season spent playing under current Watford Head Coach Quique Sanchez Flores - the midfielder moved in July 2015 to Fiorentina, where he has played 13 times this season in both Serie A and the Europa League.
Suárez has three international caps for Spain, the most recent of which came against the Netherlands last March.
