WATFORD FOOTBALL CLUB is delighted to confirm the appointment of Óscar Garcia as Head Coach, the Hornets having won the race against several high-profile English clubs to secure his services.
Óscar's recent Championship experience, taking Brighton & Hove Albion into last season's Championship promotion Play-Offs, was a key factor in his appointment.
This achievement came after coaching career highlights which include leading Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv into the UEFA Champions League thanks to a 2012/13 league title-winning campaign.
Born in Sabadell, a town in the Barcelona province of Spain, Óscar's playing days were mainly spent under the tutelage of Johan Cruyff as he broke through from the youth ranks to feature in the much-heralded Barcelona first-team of the 1990s.
A disciple of Cruyff's Barcelona coaching style, he won four League titles and European honours while featuring for the Spanish giants.
An attacking midfielder by trade during a playing career which also included spells at Valencia and Espanyol, Óscar's coaching style was developed initially during a stint working on Cruyff's staff as part of Catalonia's national team set-up.
He returned to FC Barcelona to focus on the club's young stars of tomorrow at La Masia, FCB's training facility, for around two years - during which an Óscar-led Under-19s won the treble, before taking up the challenge of senior appointments elsewhere.
Everyone at Vicarage Road extends their best wishes to Óscar for his new role, which he takes up with immediate effect.
