Head Coach believes Hornets’ squad needs to adapt, as Championship rivals become accustomed to Watford style....

WATFORD Head Coach Gianfranco Zola believes his side needs to expect teams to make life difficult for them in the npower Championship, and react to it, as he looks ahead to the match against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon.

THE Golden Boys fell to a resolute Bristol City side midweek, as the Robins adopted a defensive style of play to counter Watford’s attacking threat at Ashton Gate.

“This is the sort of thing we might find as we grow as a team in terms of quality and confidence,” he said.

“People are noticing that and may change their game-plans, and we might find more teams like Bristol City who defend deep and make it difficult. We have to find a solution. But we will learn from it and hopefully get a reaction against Bolton”.

“I welcome games like this; only through difficult games can my players can improve. It is important that we realise that we still have a young team with a lot of players, and they need challenges. Bristol City was a challenge.”

The Italian says the Bolton game is vital for Watford’s promotion push, and expects a difficult game against the Trotters at Vicarage Road, arguing that Dougie Freedman’s side’s league position doesn’t reflect the quality amongst their ranks.

“Bolton are certainly a team that you wouldn’t expect to be where they are, you would expect them to be higher up the league with the players that they have.

“They are a good team, and therefore we need to perform at our best level because they will be a challenge for us.”

“This is a crucial moment for us. We have been doing very well in the recent period, but we still look for improvements. We will be focused, and take each game as it comes. We need to treat every game as if it’s a final to reach our goal.”
