GIANFRANCO ZOLA has strengthened his Watford squad on transfer deadline day by signing five players on season-long loans.
The Hornets have an option to purchase all five players at the end of their loan periods.
Defenders Jean-Alain Fanchone (23), Neuton Piccoli (22) and Lars (Joel) Ekstrand (23) are joined by creative midfielder Cristian Battocchio (20) and striker Fernando Forestieri (22) at Vicarage Road from Udinese.
Left-sided defender Fanchone began his professional career with Strasbourg before he moved to Italy.
Brazilian defender Piccoli, known as Neuton, can play at left back or centre half. He started his career in his home country before moving to Europe.
Swedish centre half Ekstrand has been capped by his national side at Under-21 and senior level. Ekstrand started his career at Lunds BK before joining Helsingborgs in 2005.
Battocchio is an exciting midfielder who left Newell's Old Boys three years ago. He’s an Italian Under-20 international and was in action for Udinese as recently as last Saturday against Fiorentina.
Forestieri is an Argentinian-born striker who began his career with Boca Juniors. He has dual nationality and has appeared for Italy at Under-21 and youth ages. The striker spent last season with Bari and has previously appeared for Empoli and Malaga.
All transfers are subject to international clearance.
