Coronavirus: Hornets Welcome Fans' Co-Operation

The Hornets continue to take sensible additional steps to minimise the potential for exposure to Coronavirus with regards to both those involved in first-team football operations and all of its other staff.

The club welcomes supporters’ understanding in refraining from shaking hands with players, asking for photos and selfies etc. until further notice.

“The players are always keen to give their time when they can, but this is a sensible measure so I trust our supporters will respect this request,” said Head Coach Nigel Pearson ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace.

Extra measures are currently in place in relation to training ground access, while staff based at the stadium and elsewhere have been briefed following the most recent UK government advice.

Additionally, the Premier League confirmed yesterday that the fair-play handshake will not take place between players and match officials until further notice based on medical advice.

Clubs and match officials will still perform the rest of the traditional walk-out protocol ahead of each fixture. On entering the field of play, the two teams will continue to line up, accompanied by the Premier League music, then players from the home team will walk past their opposition without shaking their hands.
